Deer habitats can cover several hundreds of acres. Food plots sizes can range from 1000 square feet to several acres. Feed plots are intentionally planted to keep bubba from having to walk to find his prey. When a hunt scum talks about starving deer or feeding their family, ask how many acres they plant to fatten up and unnaturally increase the deer herd. + When scouting look for a clearing near hunting stands that are unnaturally devoid of bio-diversity and you have your food plot. Clover: *Buttercup is reputed to be toxic to clover and will inhibit it's growth, we are experimenting with this method (and several varieties) to wipe out some feed plots and will update. Early trials with ~one pound per are promising. *Buttercup is toxic to livestock but is usually avoided because of the taste. Corn and others: Clove oil, sold as a natural weed killer, is not selective but will wipe out a corn stalk in minutes with a single spray. Because of the size of most plots this method would best be employed with a backpack sprayer. Caution! Clove oil emits a strong and easily detectable smell during application, in strong concentrations it will cause eye and skin irritation. The smell of clove is also difficult to remove from skin and clothing. We will update this section with more plant specific strategies as we come across them, If you have a feed plot tactic that works let us know |
