The Eastern is the most common and widespread of all turkeys, found in 38 states and Ontario. Three million Easterns range from the east coast to Texas, Missouri, parts of Kansas, Oklahoma and Nebraska, Iowa, and Minnesota. Hunters have transplanted Easterns in Oregon, Washington and California.  They prefer hardwood forests; although they can also be found in swamps and farmland. The Eastern is the largest turkey, weighing up to 30 pounds in the northern part of their range.  But 10- 20 pounds is a more common weight.
